…the ones who get that when we read mcintosh’s “unpacking the invisible knapsack” abt whiteness and white privilege understand how it connects to white supremacy, how it is normalized b/c they were raised to not see or question these unearned benefits…
that when they understand this their attractiveness and appeal is amplified. that their pool of folks to partner w/ expands b/c now many poc they may be interested in may be a bit more comfortable w/them in various settings b/c that consciousness is important to many poc in the us.
and w/that consciousness comes responsibility and it’s possible that many white women will learn lots w/them and be challenged and that may be difficult for those women and they may push back and reject them, but there are consequences to consciousness.
but this is where my ability to facilitate/teach/etc. ends in the classroom b/c this would be considered crossing a line of sorts. these young men are not just “smart” they are conscious, aware, present. that’s important. i hope they maintain that b/c it’s vital to transformation.
it’s really an honor teaching in these situations and witnessing their evolution.
